Last Saturday, my teachers, classmates and I went to Qi Ao Island.
We took a bus to get there. It was raining, and it was also very hot. We put up our umbrellas and enjoyed the breeze. The air was fresh and we could see green plants all over. We were far away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
Qi Ao is a small village; the people are very hospitable , and we could hear "Hi," and "Hello," everywhere. They are curious about foreigners but they are also friendly.
At first, we visited an old temple. In China, most people believe in Buddha --we could see the effect of religion even in this small village. I guess this temple has a long history. Perhaps it was built in the Qing Dynasty . When we hung around, there were a lot of dogs around us. They seemed to be welcoming us. My teachers were very interested in the old buildings, and they looked at everything that we thought was very common. A smoking old man, flock of ducks, even wild flowers by the road--they were feeling nature with heart.
Afterwards, we went to a tailor shop. One of my teachers, Eva, ordered tailor-made clothes there. We bargained with the tailor, and it was fun. Eva's laughter could be heard by the neighbors. When we were tired and hungry, we had lunch in a restaurant. Mabel, another teacher, ordered a lot of food for us. We wolfed it down. In the meantime, my teachers tried to communicate with some locals; they understood each other by body language. We relaxed and laughed a lot. Eva is an optimistic lady--her happiness infects everyone around her. I had a good time last weekend. Although Qi Ao Island is not so special and the scenery is not so attractive, I still felt I had a great day.
My teachers made my trip shining! I always think that if I travel somewhere, the point is to have good companions rather than good scenery.
