      I was so shocked and devastated by the news of such disaster in your country that I could not write to you.  It was as if my mind and hand were frozen with anguish. My heart was so full of fear for you, your family, friends and countrymen that I did not know what I could say or do to ease your pain or allay your fears. I didn’t even dare until now to ask whether or not you and your family were directly affected by it, hoping and praying that you were safe.

Since that day, you have been in my mind and heart praying that you and your beloved nation will come to terms with the loss and devastation that may take a very long time to recover from. Knowing as I do the closeness of your family ties and particularly many with only one child or grand child in the family, I didn’t even know how I could continue to celebrate the birth of my forth grandchild who was born only 4 days before the disaster.

Where is our home?

     I can only say that the whole world shares China’s agony, grief and despair as much as they share with you the celebration of the Olympics which has been overshadowed by the fury of nature set upon your beautiful country. 

      However, I have no doubt that my Chinese friends will raise yet again to remedy the wounds of this affliction by the healing medicine of love, compassion, unity, resilience, constancy and faith in better days to come.
